EDUC 5003 Reading and Multiple Literacies

A study of design principles to promote reading across the curriculum for guided inquiry, self-directed learning, collaborative learning, effective use of cultural and digital new media to meet the needs of diverse learners, as well as cognitive reading strategies for constructing meaning from text. Candidates will demonstrate awareness of the Science of Reading and the reciprocal relationships among the foundations of reading (i.e., phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, decoding, word recognition, spelling, and vocabulary knowledge). The use of technology is required. This course meets state and national standards. NOTE: This course is non-transferable to a baccalaureate program.

Prerequisites: Hold a valid Pre-Service Certificate and a grade of “B” or better in EDUC 5001, EDUC 5007, 5004, 5005 and 5006. Co-requisite: SPED 5001.
