EDUC 4140 Clinical Practice I
This course is the first in a series of two semester long student teaching experiences, and is designed to give the candidate a co-teaching experience in a 9th-12th grade classroom setting. Candidates will study and apply pedagogical content knowledge grounded in research-based best practices in the design, implementation, and evaluation of instruction specific to their area of concentration to meet the diverse needs of learners across secondary grades through student teaching including: curriculum design; determining and adapting appropriate methods to classroom instruction; fostering critical thinking skills; meeting district and state standards; the use of technology in enhancing student learning. Candidates will also attend regularly scheduled seminars on topics related to student teaching. The use of technology is required. Clinical Practice I requires that candidates engage in a minimum of 240 hours in a high school settings; while these hours are of upmost importance, the most critical component of this placement is the hands-on learning opportunity that occurs over the course of the semester. This course meets state and national standards.
Co-requisites: EDUC 4120 and EDUC 4130
Prerequisites: Formal admission into the Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Program, Pass Checkpoint 3 and hold a valid Pre-Service Certificate
