NURS 5300 Advanced Pharmacology/Therapeutic Interventions

Prerequisite: Admission to MSN Program or Permission from MSN Graduate Program Coordinator

This course will focus on classifications of pharmacologic agents as well as herbal and natural substances used in treating and preventing disease. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mechanism and transport will be discussed with particular emphasis on the adult and elderly adult populations. The mechanism of action, therapeutic effects, clinical applications, contraindications, and adverse effects as well as a description of current drug development and approval will be included. Special consideration will be given to the unique medication considerations for the elderly adult.  Non-pharmacologic as well as pharmacologic therapeutic interventions will be addressed.
