Advising

Middle Georgia State University recognizes academic advising as a critical component of a successful educational experience. Through the advising sessions students will be provided with accurate and timely information necessary to define and work toward achieving their educational, professional and personal goals. Students are assigned to an academic advisor upon admission or enrollment to the University based upon their declared major. Advisor assignments are typically adjusted when students officially change their major. With the assistance of the academic advisor, each student will select a degree program of study and follow a clear course sequenced pathway to graduation. Through collaborative relationships with academic advisors, students will develop cognitive and non-cognitive skills that promote the development of a productive academic mindset. Advisor contact information is available at https://www.mga.edu/advising/advisors.php

Students are responsible for meeting with their advisor to plan for the upcoming term prior to enrolling in classes. Students should refer to the Middle Georgia State University Academic Calendar for advising and registration events. at https://www.mga.edu/academics/calendars/index.php. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor throughout the academic year.

Although academic advisors are here to help, it is important for students to realize that they are responsible for meeting all graduation requirements. Students can increase their academic planning effectiveness by fully utilizing the advising system, by thoroughly acquainting themselves with the academic requirements of their major and minor fields, as well as the University policies for registration and graduation. The Undergraduate Catalog is the official source of information on these matters.
