HIST 4320 France 1660-1815

This course is a survey of French history from the reign of Louie XIV through the end of the French Revolution. Topics include political structures, the rise of the bourgeoisie, Salon culture, the controversy over Huguenot political status, French expansion and colonization, the mercantile economy, the Enlightenment, conflicts between rural and urban society, the collapse of absolute monarchy, the Reign of Terror, the rise of Bonapartism, and the Napoleonic Wars.
