SPED 3110 Introduction to the Exceptional Learner

In this course, teacher candidates will be introduced to the field of special education, children and youth with exceptional learning needs, and students who are at risk. Topics include the historical and legal foundation for special education, professional and ethical practices, multi-tiered systems of support, the referral process, collaboration with families and professionals, and characteristics of students with disabilities. The use of technology is required. This course is aligned with state and national standards.
