HUMN 1005 Perspectives on Prime-Time TV
This is an Institutional Priority course that develops key competencies in critical thinking and oral communication through an introduction to prime-time TV. The course includes an online Critical Thinking and Oral Communication (CTOC) component. The course offers an opportunity for students to apply critical thinking skills to various aspects of prime-time TV and to gain experience in developing and presenting original arguments in oral forms. The course will help students learn to better analyze their television viewing habits and interpret the messages TV communicates so as not to be passive consumers of information. As a result, students will learn to think more clearly and concretely about the effect television has on their lives and to think more deeply about cultural issues. The course will use prime-time TV as a vehicle for discussing the importance of making critical judgments.
