Program Overview
The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Literacy supports practicing educators who seek advanced graduate study in curriculum, instruction, and literacy. The program admits candidates every semester and is competitive/space available.

Program Mission and Learning Outcomes
To deepen teachers’ knowledge, adding new skills, broadening their vision as teachers and educational leaders, evaluating best practices, preparing leaders/researchers/master practitioners in literacy instruction, and promoting inquiry, reflection, collaboration, and action.

Admission Requirements
Applicants should meet the general admissions requirements for graduate study and these specific requirements: (i) Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75. Applicants with GPA 2.5-2.74 who have otherwise met requirements may submit a letter of appeal.  (ii) Hold or be eligible for a clear renewable level four Georgia Teacher Certificate. (iii) Provide two professional recommendations. (iv) Be employed with a P-12 accredited institution. 

Disciplinary action at MGA, another institution, or in the military may prevent admission.

Program Format
The program is a fully online 30-credit-hour, 10-course program: 9 hours of core courses, 18 hours of literacy-focused courses, and a 3-hour capstone research project.

Program-Specific Academic Standards and Progression
Students must maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater in all courses; earn no lower than C in all MGA graduate-level education program courses; retake only one graduate course in which a D or F was earned; maintain employment at an accredited P-12 institution and hold a valid teaching certificate; complete the capstone research project; and follow applicable School, MGA, GaPSC, and school/district conduct policies.

Clinical / Fieldwork / Practicum / Internship Requirements
Students must remain employed at an accredited P-12 institution and hold a valid teaching certificate for the duration of the program.

Graduation / Certification / Completion Requirements
Complete all coursework and the capstone research project. Candidates must enroll in all courses in the program of study at MGA; transient credit is not permitted under the M.Ed. transient credit policy.
