Program Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing provides graduate-level study in creative writing as a stand-alone credential and as potential preparation for additional graduate work in writing.

Program Mission and Learning Outcomes
To promote the craft and publication of creative writing, with study in fiction, poetry, screenwriting, narrative journalism, and publishing.

The certificate is fully online, delivered in 8-week sessions, and may be completed in one calendar year.

 

Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing

 

Required Courses (12 hours)

Students will take the following four classes:

CRWR 5040	Fiction Writing	3
CRWR 5050	Poetry Writing	3
CRWR 5700	Narrative Journalism	3
CRWR 5900	Publishing and the Creative Writer	3

Elective Course (3 hours)

Students will take one of the following elective classes:

CRWR 5440	Screenwriting	3
CRWR 5500	Memoir	3
CRWR 5600	Narrative Development in Video Gaming	3
CRWR 5800	Genre Writing Seminar	3

Plan of Study
The certificate can be completed in a calendar year with two courses in fall, two courses in spring, and one course in summer; admitted students may begin in fall, spring, or summer.

Graduation / Certification / Completion Requirements
Complete the four required courses and one approved elective for a total of 15 graduate credit hours.
