This graduate-level course will focus on healthcare economics and finance to help you articulate new approaches to managing cost and improving access, quality, and safety. Students will learn the importance of health economics and its relationship to general analysis of health policy issues in addition to how to assess the fiscal status of a healthcare operation. Strategic planning, marketing, quality assurance, and risk management initiatives for healthcare organizations will also be explored. This course builds on the foundations of finance, economics, industrial organization, and accounting relationships. The student will also be introduced to financial statement analysis, financial forecasting, leverage, working capital management, capital structure, capital budgeting, short- and long-term financial management, sources of financing, time value of money, and cost of capital. Overall, this course will provide the student with the full picture of the mechanics of insurance and reimbursement and the impact they have on the financial aspect of healthcare organizations. |
